We, the Undersigned have thanks to you successfully stankhed up the stage at the Liverpool O2Academy. Thanks to all the people who left the sun to catch up on stage to turn out the party and get youz warmed up for the Skatalites! OMG how amaz we’re they?! Huge Thanks to the Skatalites for blessing us with their sounds here in Liverpool! And they are very lovely people indeed! One Love x
Like we promised on facebook we are adding to this gallery pictures that you send us on our wall (or timeline…hohoho) or lovewtu@gmail.com and we show them here on our website!
Thanks for being funky! And see you at Kaya Festival this weekend! xXx
Thanks for John Gibbons to interview Matt and Collen after the Groove on the Green 2012 a couple weeks ago!
“However many of their improbably large number of members We, the Undersigned (aka WtU) manage to fit on stage, watching them is an absolute joy. Fusing Reggae, Funk, Hip-hop and Rock to create their own unique sound, they refer to as Stankh, they have gone down a storm with whatever crowd I have seen them perform in front of, and so it’s no surprise they are being booked for festivals all over the summer and to open up for a growing number of reggae and funk superstars. Ahead of their support slot with legendary Jamaican band ‘The Skatalites’ John Gibbons met up with Collen “The Referee” Chandler (Lead vocals and guitar) and Matt “The Mook” Mak (Bass) to talk about their unique style and what the hell Stankh is anyway.”
WtU completely to mention on here, the big news that we are playing on Kayabbean Sunday, 3rd June at KAYA FESTIVAL.

Yes! We’ve got the sunshine back here in Liverpool. Ideal weather to spread some sounds and beats in the streets and do get some money in the band kitty to pay for our rent while we’re writing and practicing new and relearn/revamp old forgotten songs in the night.
Cheers Liverpool for welcoming us so lovely and taking the time to listen to our crazy improvised madness…yes we take in many shapes and forms but produce many weird new styles and genres.
We’ll be in small formations as much out as possible, but we plan on having a street gig, yes an actual WtU gig in the streets once every month hoping to pay for future recordings, equipment, transport and merchandise. Basically, you people who come to listen to us are gonna be our record label!
And feel free to join us in the street jam if you play an instrument! Like a couple of you already did YES GET INVOLVED!
Enough words! Turn on the music player and have a look at the pictures, that Kaniote Street Style and many others took of We the Undersigned and The Fire Beneath the Sea on church street! Go ahead
POW! Let’s have a re-cap of this pretty busy month!
10th to 12th February: Threshold Festival 2012, the second edition of Liverpool’s multi-arts grassroots festival! The universe and the lovely people working at Threshold put us in Chai Wallah’s Sunday line up! WtU was pretty excited to play after the truly boss Yes Sir Boss and before the very talented Joe Driscoll. Thanks to everyone who made it down to our set and everyone who made it down to Threshold! Hell Yeah!
Woo! Thanks for this lovely little review:
“My personal highlight though was the voodoo that We The Undersigned worked on the crowd with even more people throwing funky moves than previously, including many in what seems to be the unofficial Threshold 2012 accessory of an unusual hat. (Hint: How about a stall next year?!) There really should be more people in these hats and the band were on that list too, with the sax player attracting many flash lenses over the course of the set. ” – http://thresholdofficial.tumblr.com/post/17558431156/threshold-diary-day-three
For everyone who missed our set you can watch us on youtube. And, if you like to get the links to listen to the audio recording of the entire set then sent us an email to lovewtu@gmail.com and tell us why.
Then we started writing a new song inspired by John Coltrane’s Equinox, Ed Solo’s We play the music and reggae caribic steeldrums And called it ‘Raise Your Defenses’! You might get to hear it when we’re back in May!!
Then on the 25th February, we played at Occupy Liverpool’s Benefit Gig…and again huge thanks to the crowd you got the energy up to stankh level!
We’re also blessed by getting such a nice preview by John Gibbons for that gig:
“Next up are We The Undersigned (WtU) who I frigging love. They call themselves Reggae Funk Superheroes, which is a TV show, starring them, that I want to see made. Despite being a big fan I literally don’t know where to start describing them. There are 15 of them for a kick off, including a rap troupe, a brass section and whatever other instrument they seem to have found on the way to the stage. They call their music “Stankh”, I call it bedlam and they are worth the money alone. They’re worth double the money alone. I wouldn’t want to go on after them put it that way.”
Now we’re applying and waiting for festival submissions! Please if you a know or are involved in a festival get us on board by showing the festival your support for WtU – twitter, facebook or even email the festivals and tell them about the cosmic funk rays of WtU and how to get in touch with us (bookwtu@gmail.com) Spread the Stankh! Coz you know you love it!
As well we’re about to audition a couple more drummers and then get back on practicing training up everyone to Festival Form! POW! We’ll be back with a set that will funk you up, skank your knees out and wiggle you into bits! Be aware of the superpowers of WtU!
So until we’ll see back on stage, we’re gonna see in the streets of Liverpool on different locations and probably when you least expect it! With brassed up covers and new songs! Let’s keep the party going! WOAB!
Yes! You can download now ‘Cosmic Warrior’ recorded live of the main stage at Threshold Festival 2012! Kerp-Pow! But be quick soundcloud.com limits free downloads to a 100! As well if you look carefully through http://soundcloud.com/wtu you will find more free downloads!
